Wroclaw University Library provides its users (employees and students of UoW) new product – bibliographic software CITAVI

Citavi is not only bibliographic software, but also universal tool for organizing knowledge for various types of researchers. It is helpful on every stage of writing of scientific paper: from creating work schedule, through searching the Internet, working with sources, organizing knowledge to preparing manuscript.
Citavi consists of three modules: bibliographical editor, knowledge organizer and task schedule. First module serves for gathering all kind of bibliographical data, second for management of notes, quotes and even illustrations, that will be used in paper. Third module is schedule, in which one can write down his/hers aims, tasks or important dates.
Citavi software allows for handling 35 types of publications, so one can describe in proper way almost every source. Software allows to search over 4000 data bases, catalogs and libraries in many countries, inter alia WorldCat, that is world’s largest bibliographical database. Polish catalogs are also added successively. Recently was added electronic catalog (OPAC) of Wroclaw University Library as well as databases: Staff Publication and Catalog of microfilms. One must only write down ISBN number or other title’s id and software automatically downloads all necessary bibliographical data, keywords available in selected libraries, abstracts and even scanned picture of the covers. Thanks to so called Picker, plugin for Internet Explorer and Firefox, all data regarding publications can be downloaded with one click.
Build into software PDF viewer allows selecting and copying txt, thanks to which user can view additional data supplemented to the publication. Parts of books and articles can be added to one’s own work in a way that no quote will be left without citation. Over 1000 styles for quoting allow professional editing of the paper for thousands of periodicals.
Citavi allows achieving better results for people working on basis of knowledge for every scientific discipline, on every given subject and as a part of each team. Knowledge organizer allows easy shaping of structure of document, dividing research material using even very complicated category system or organizing notes from several years. Thanks to Citavi one can gather hundreds of quotes, assessments, comments and reflections in one place with perfect order.
